"Haks & Maris, p.181: "Born in Zwolle (The Netherlands), 11 october 1882. He was a pupil of the "Rijksakademie" in Amsterdam. the artist came to Indonesia in 1910, where he settled in Medan, Sumatra. In 1922 he returned to The Netherlands and settled in Rijswijk. Painter, watercolourist, draughtsman but above all illustratr and cartoonist, who signed his work 'Menno'. He made the illustrations for an impressive amount of books and children's books about Indonesia and published some books himself, such as 'Indische Penkrabbels' (Jakarta, 1912) and 'Nederlandsch Indië zoals het was, Menno's 'Indische penkrabbels' (Rijswijk 1956) Several drawings by his hand were used to illustrate the weeklies 'De Reflector' (no.15, 14 April 1917, p.402-405) and 'De Zweep' in 1922 and 1923, and many other publications. Died in Rijswijk (The Netherlands), 11 july 1974."
